                                        Crate Training Your Puppy

A few helpful hints for the new owner..............

                                        Dogs...Unwanted Behaviour

A folding kennel or crate, offers security by representing a ‘den’, ‘bolt hole’, lair or burrow to your dog, and you will find that frequent use of a covered kennel-crate will often eliminate distress related problems such as destructive behaviour and inappropriate urination or defecation.

If you have young children, it is better for the dog to have rest periods away from them in a safe place where he will feel at ease.

                                        Travel

If your dog has to be left for an hour or two, it is not unkind to put him in the crate. He will see it as his safe place or bed Travel crates can help make your pet feel more secure and prevent inappropriate behaviour. It can help to partly cover the crate to make it feel like a safe den for him and line the base  with a favourite blanket or a purpose-sized bed.
They can also be used to confine your dog overnight or for limited ‘random’ periods whilst the family remains in the house.
These crates are ideal as they are collapsible, and should be chosen to fit into your vehicle. Motoring organisations recommend their use as many dogs are killed each year following auto accidents. In road traffic accidents, where the back of the vehicle opens, the dog can be released onto motorways or busy roads and quickly becomes disorientated.
The crate should be covered top and sides, to create the ‘den’ effect.
